Read & chill: 2019 Recap
For the last six months of 2019, I committed to reading more books.
Specifically, a friend challenged me to read one book per week with him. I’m always game for a little competition.
Being an analyst not only in career, but at heart, I created a spreadsheet and ranking system for every book I read.
In those last six months, I read (and listened to) more books than I’ve read in the prior year. I chose not to share any books below a 2-rating; because I don’t want to discourage anyone from picking up a book and seeing if it’s right and enjoyable for them or their journey.
My top reads (or listens) of 2019 were:
From my reading list:
Best book for business? The Culture Code and The Happiness Advantage
Best book for bettering yourself? The Happiness Advantage
Best book on politics/international affairs? Born a Crime
Best and most entertaining story? Born a Crime
I’m continuing the reading and ranking of books in 2020, but plan to read 5–6 books at a time. We watch 5–6 shows on Netflix at a time and change which we play given on how we feel at a given point in time, why don’t we do that with books?
This does make my tracking a bit more difficult, I’m rotating 5–6 books over 5–6 weeks and hope to finish them all in a little over a month while adding new reads to the circulation.
I’ll let you know how it goes. Leave any recommendations for me in the comments below.
